that calls me from my sleep
haunts the shadows of my mind
calls yearnings from the deep.
How can a simple pen and pad
instill such true devotion
cascade in laughter, fall to tears
encasing such emotion.
And when it stills remaining silent
its calling you do not hear
why does it cause a saddened soul
and the straining of the ear.
Ah to hear its sweet caress
whispering to your heart
a cacophony of images
enticing to take part.
A part in God's creation
he has gifted to you alone
a straining of existence
that calls you to his throne.
He has given no one else
what lives in your minds eye
a peculiar uniqueness
granted from on high.
Though the gospels you will not write
there are hymns within your heart
rhymes and reasons, tales to tell
in your way His words impart.
That is the calling of the pen
the calling of the Word
that you might grant understanding
to one who has never heard.
