Topic: Teacher (10/26/06)
There is something about opening presents that excites everyone. It was Zoe’s fifth birthday and her brother Jared, six, wanted to help her open her presents. Zoe being a child with a heart for giving handed Jared a present to open each time she opened one. Her sharing was genuine, straight from the heart, no strings attached. Zoe shared, Jared learned.

Zoe picked up and hugged each item she received and gently placed them back down. She picked up the brightly colored pony book, climbed up into the oversized couch, opened the book and began to read word by word. She stopped, stuck on a word. Jared came alongside her, put his big brother arm around her and helped her sound it out. “You got it right Zoe, good job!”. Jared taught, Zoe learned.

After she finished reading her book, Zoe set all the presents in a line on the living room table. Her eyes moved back and forth and a smile formed as she looked over the assortment of items. There were books, clothes, toy horses, hair pieces, and birthday cards. She walked around the table and ran her fingers lightly over each item. As she walked her eyes became wide and tears began to gently roll down her cheeks. “Mommy, God is so good to me.” Zoe shared, we learned.

Children are a gift from God to us. We can be taught so much by observing how they view the world, how they interact. They are not weighed down by the heaviness of this life. They can hear the still small voice of God as He speaks. They know how to listen, how to laugh, how to live in the joy of the moment.

Jesus taught us that in order to be one of His, we need to become like little children. I am so thankful I have Jared and Zoe in my life to remind me of how Jesus says it to be. Allow yourself to take a chance, to dance in the puddles of life, to enjoy each moment.

Always remember, a child shall lead them.

I loved this story--I could see the two loving children, brother and sister, interacting with each other and innocently teaching their parents. Great description, characterization, and message!

I also enjoyed the structured refrains about teaching and learning at the end of each scenario. More direct description and dialog to communicate the message, followed by another one of these refrains, might make a more vivid ending.

What I liked- Very nice devotional! Your starting paragraph was great - drawing me in - making me want to learn more. Good example and then a good lesson afterwards. Nicely done:)

What I might change - One punctuation need in the beginning at a quote.
I might restructure the ending a tiny bit - as you have two Always near each other.
