Surely you can see that I mean you no harm. I’m passing through this food court just like you are, and I’d like to talk to you. Please – don’t get up. What can 10 minutes and one cup of coffee hurt? Don’t worry. I’m not selling anything. What I have to give you is free.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sam Cooper, but you can call me CooperMan. I’m the one they call the Fire Fighter.
Never mind the way I look. I know that my outfit is unusual. But you know how they say “dress for success”? This outfit is the way that I dress; in order to face my enemy. But never mind him, for now. I’ve got something inside me that’s more powerful than he’ll ever be. And I want to share it with you.
I wasn’t always CooperMan. I used to be that guy who went to church, week after week. I ‘d hear the pastor preach about hell, and the fires that await the people who don’t accept Jesus as their Savior. But I figured it had nothing to do with me. I got saved when I was a kid, and I’ve lived a good life since then. I don’t cheat or lie, and I read the Bible every day.
But there was one thing I didn’t do so well, and that was telling other people about God’s salvation. Whenever I’d try, I’d just get tongue tied, and end up saying “well, when you’re ready, we can talk about it.” But they never got ready. And I never pushed it.
You say I’m not a preacher, so who cares if I didn’t tell anyone about God?
Well, – I’d say God cared. Jesus gave His disciples clear instructions, right after He died. He told them to spread His Good News to everyone in the world.
So, how did I get here, and how did I decide to start looking like this?
One day I was reading my Bible, and I found a verse in Ezekiel where it says that if we don’t warn people about those fires of hell, their damnation will be our responsibility. And it really made me think about my part in spreading the Good News.
And then, that night I had a dream. In my dream I saw the fires of hell. The heat is everywhere. It’s like burning sand on your bare feet; but it burns your whole body, and never stops. There’s no water to help you cool off, and no relief from the fires. The flames enter your nose and mouth and scorch your flesh. And the smell of brimstone is so foul that you’d do just about anything to stop its stench.
But as bad as those things are, the worst part was that those poor souls were forever separated from God. They could look up and see Him, and call out for His mercy. They think of the chances they’d missed for His mercy. But it was forever too late. So they screamed out their torment; day in and day out.
After that dream, I just couldn’t face the world anymore without fighting against those fires for as many as I can. Now I go to places like this, and talk to people like you. I call myself CooperMan: the Fire Fighter. As for the outfit: this is the helmet of salvation, and here’s the breastplate of righteousness. Around my waist is the belt of truth, and I’m carrying the shield of faith. This Bible is the sword of the Spirit.
No – I’m not a super hero. Super heroes only save the day. I’m here to tell you about the One Who saved your soul.
My mission is to talk to as many people as I can. I want to let them know that those fires don’t have to be their destiny. No matter how good you think your life is, God’s Word says that unless your sins are forgiven, you’ll be one of those unfortunate souls that suffer those fires. I’m here to tell you about the Way to fight against that fate.
Will you give me just a few minutes more? Let’s look at the Bible, and I’ll explain more about salvation. Let me show you how to fight those fires.

Ezekiel 3: 18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Eph 6: 13-17 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
