one day a month, might teach us respect?
.....Could you stand the life
.....of a doctor’s wife?
or of a clerk whose books are suspect?
For one day, try serving as a fireman
or change spots with somebody’s chauffeur.
.....Work the fac’try lines,
.....labor in the mines,
swap posts with the President’s go-fer.
What if our world valued the assortment
of folks blessed with talents that they use?
.....Yes, I think at times
.....we’d spare other’s “crimes”
if we walked in his everyday shoes.
See yourself as a struggling artist.
Call up the duties of a bar maid.
.....Be a kids’ teacher
.....maybe a preacher.
Pause to wonder how their bills get paid.
Consider the job of mother/housewife
caring for hubby and toddler quints.
.....Trade jobs with a cook
.....who’s writing a book.
Some vocations need a seventh sense.
What if we just inspect occupations
with intent to find something worth praise?
.....Our motivation --
.....appreciation
for the world of work that fills our days.
