Many people walk along, day-to-day in the casual, laissez-faire manner. They've learned that nothing matters, because it hurts to make it matter. That's called involvement. "We don't have time for that." How much they gain by not letting day-to-day things get to them.
How much they lose by not letting day-to-day things get to them, as well.
This life isn't for the casual, this Christian life. Things do matter. It all does really hurt. It hurts to care. It hurts to get involved. It hurts to take time. This Christian life is painful because we see the way God really intends life on this earth. It's to be lived with the sense that things matter, to be involved and to take time.
How sad, how unfortunate, that Christianity has become a casual reference for the ungodly. They should not even hold the name of Christ on their lips. They should actually leave Christianity, rather than hold His Name on their lips in an unworthy manner. Strong warning is given against this in the Scripture. It is a dangerous thing to hold to a form of godliness, yet deny its power. 2 Timothy 3:5 1
The ungodly have believed that this Christian life can be accomplished in a casual way. They go to church on a regular basis, all the while living life just the same as if Christ never had suffered crucifixion on their behalf. Or, they believe that life should go on, just as before they heard of Christ, quite because of His crucifixion. He paid the price, there is no more struggle.
That statement may be both true and false. He paid the price, there is no more struggle.
Such earnest desire to escape this present life circumvents the pain and process that Christians truly do experience. The concept of what's to come in our future, glory filled, eternal life with Christ has superseded the present, painful life. We must look up, in those moments and realize that He did pay the price. We couldn't make it through this painful experience called life without knowing that. At the same time, we have to look around. We have to fight the good fight of faith, and take hold of the eternal life. 1 Timothy 6:12 2
Therein is the key! Our treasure truly does await us. Through the pain and the process that this Christian life brings, our peace is in knowing that we "take hold of the eternal life"!
This life isn't for the casual. We have to allow things to matter, even when it hurts. Day-to-day things should get to us. We have to be involved, we have to take time.
