Unfortunately, we don't realize that, until we've gotten some wisdom -
and middle girth - under our belts. By that time, we've wasted such a
phenomenal amount of time pursuing......
Pursuing what? Money?
The fact about money, if you haven't already discovered, is that it comes.....
And, it goes.
One day, you're living in a rather comfortable way. And, the next,
you're biting your nails, and having nightmares about homelessness.
"Why?" we ask. "Why does the Lord allow such tremulous times in our lives?"
Because, how else can He teach us to depend only on Him? Depending on
the world, and all of its wealth, after all, is not very wise. But, you don't
figure that out until you're old enough to have suffered great loss in your life.
And, that, I'm afraid, only comes with living, and age.
Age is a great teacher. The Lord is the greatest teacher. When He decides
to instruct you about what is important in life, you will learn......
And, learn, very well. And, you won't forget it, not for the rest of your
earthly days.
So, therefore, what is considered to be 'a price above rubies'?
According to Proverbs 31, verse 10, it is 'a good wife' or 'virtuous woman'.
Of course, in our society today, Proverbs 31 doesn't mean very much. If it
did, divorce would not be so prevalent. The world is filled with good, and
virtuous wives, who have been abandoned, and left to struggle, with their
children, alone. Obviously, these women were not thought to have much
value at all, let alone a price above rubies.
Properity, a spouse, good health, and a house the size of a mansion are all
wonderful things. But, they will enter your life - and, one day, leave it,
just as quickly. In the nanosecond of a heartbeat - they will be gone.
What, then, should we treasure, far above the price of rubies? What is the
most precious thing that exists, in this very fickle, and unpredictable world?
Perhaps, it is our relationship with the Lord. To know Him, and to walk with
Him, each moment of taking a breath, may be the only wealth we ever need.
For, isn't He Prosperity Itself?
