What war was ever won without first the hope that it would be won? What marriage has taken place without the hope she would say yes? Hope brings good things into light. Have you ever noticed that when you decide you want to make a new car purchase you suddenly see that car everywhere? Hope is like that. Once you start looking for it, it is everywhere!
I place my ultimate hope in Christ. I hope he will show me the path for my life. I hope he will lead me to make wise choices. I have too many times placed all of my hope in man and been let down. I know I too have let others down. We are fallible humans but Christ is immutable, he does not change. It is in that consistency that I know there is hope. For every time I fall he is there to pick me back up again. He grabs my hand as I extend mine and inevitably I get on my feet again. His hope is there, like that rope, and all you have to do is hang on. Sometimes hope is all you have, sometimes hope is all you need.

Because part of the scoring is based on a good beginning, I'd cut out the part, "When I think of hope." Another criteria is about the flow of the piece, and as Dub said, if you take out the "you" writing it would polish it up nicely, e.g.The hope of winning the war.
Proposing with the hope of a positive answer.
Once hope enters the heart it shimmers in every alleyway and dark corner of doubt.
