‘Once upon a time’,
And ends with happily ever after,
What story does my life reflect so far?
Am I a princess locked in her tower?
Hidden in sorrow from the world,
Is my prince waiting somewhere to hear?
Of how my hair is unfurled?
Or is there a wicked stepmother,
Lurking in the dark woods,
Out to get me with an apple,
That only true love’s kiss can release?
Am I truly a child of a King?
My life with that familiar fairytale ring,
Or am I dreaming of life before I fall,
Perhaps fairy tales’ are just stories after all.
What story do I long to have?
The one I cherished most as a child.
The story of a child once lost,
Called out to belong by her father?
Or the story where the handsome prince,
Comes along and saves the day?
Whichever story rings true for me,
That echoes in my heart,
I am a daughter of the King,
And married to the handsome prince,
And I know I will turn and face the day,
For we all live happy ever after in the end.
