When I was ten, I attended Calvinettes at the Christian Reformed church which I really enjoyed. It is now called GEMS which stand for "Girls Every Where Meeting The Savior." My last year in the group was when I was in grade 8. I wished that they would have more for older girls but they didn't.
I had trouble in high school. A lot of those students know that I was a Christian. They made of me by saying, "Have your read your bible today, Cheryl?" or "have I ever seen God or Jesus." The truth is that nobody has seen God. Back in the biblical times, people had seen Jesus until he died on the cross.
When I was in grade 12, I really back slid a lot. I started drinking alcohol. I drank some of my parents wine. They drank that every meal, but they consumed it responsively. I did not feel good about myself. I did not know what I was going to do after I graduated for high school. I started disliking myself because my neighbor who I was friends with said that I could only do so much. Since my childhood, I had learning delays.
A year later I was in a vocational program, and I took a typing course at the community college. I worked in a hospital as a cleaner, and they gave me a good recommendation. After working at the hospital, I worked at a vegan hospital washing dishes, and baking. I liked that place, and I started to feel good about myself. They even liked my work, but they cut back my wages because the business was not too good.
I few years later, I got a full time job in a deli, and I felt that they did not like me too much. I felt like hurting myself. My vocational counselor said to be my own friends, and do my best in which I did.
I worked there for almost 30 years! They were not as hard on me any more. Since Covid happened, they did not want me back full, so got a job in a mall cleaning tables in the food court.
I am back with God, and I keep trying do his will. I attend a coffee break meeting for the ladies, and I still keep going to church.
