The Piercing Word of God

Hebrews 4:12- “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

The word of God is so powerful and piercing that it can and will change the condition of your heart. The word of God will convict you (your heart) when you are wrong. The word of God will convict you when your motives behind your actions are wrong or out of alignment with the word of God. The word of God will make you aware of and conscious of your sins and faults. The word of God penetrates deeply like leaven added to unleavened bread. “Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened,” (Matthew 13:33). Once the truth of God enters into the heart and is allowed to grow and flourish in good soil within the heart; it will bring forth and bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The word of God must penetrate deeply, it must take root in the fertile soil of the believer’s heart.

What happens once a plant gets rooted in soil? The plant will begin to absorb nutrients and oxygen and water from the soil, which are necessary for survival. Being rooted in the word of God is necessary for our survival both spiritually and physically. The word of God provides nourishment that our heart, soul, mind, and spirit need to prosper and flourish. The word of God provides nourishment for the soil of our heart; if we let it penetrate deeply like leaven being added to unleavened bread.

The word of God can purge and purify, convict and convert. Like leaven added to unleavened bread; once the kingdom of God is come to completion, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, (Philippians 2:10-11). When the whole world recognizes and acknowledges that Jesus is Lord, every knee shall bow and tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord. Just like the whole loaf of bread is leavened when the leaven deeply penetrates through it; the word of God deeply penetrates the heart, mind, soul, and spirit of believers until the whole individual is miraculously changed and conformed by the word of God.

We are purged, purified, convicted and brought to conversion by the piercing of our hearts by the word of God. “And he said, that which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, and out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these things come from within, and defileth the man,” (Mark 7:20-23). The word of God can discern all of these evil sins that may be present within the heart of both believers and unbelievers. The kingdom of God is within our hearts, minds, and spirits. “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you,” (Luke 17:21).

Studying the word of God draws us closer to him and enables us to hear from God. It is through God’s word that we learn what God’s voice sounds like. The word of God enables us to distinguish and discern between what is of God and what is not of God. The word of God empowers us to distinguish between the voice of God and the voice of the enemy.

I enjoyed reading this. You made some great points and drew the theme together successfully in the last paragraph. God’s word is precious and you remind us how important it is. Blessings

You make some great points in this essay. I liked your selection of Bible verses too. Look back and see how many times you repeated words. I think you'll be surprised. Some tightening of the lines would help that. You nid a nice job of writing on topic and delivered a powerful message.
