Simon the Tanner

Ceremonially unclean this is his life
And maybe lonely if he has no wife
But a leather maker makes a living
Working in stench that’s unrelenting

Simon a tanner lives by the sea side
Making leather with every animal hide
Simon surnamed Peter here he will tarry
In Joppa for Dorcus so they don’t bury

Simon will stay with Simon many days
In Joppa where Jonah fled God’s ways
Simon a tanner to Christ Jesus he came
Father’s respect of persons is no game

Cornelius’ prayers and alms heard and seen
Call for Simon Peter where he’s been
With one Simon a tanner by the sea
Let Simon Peter come speak to thee

Simon a tanner lives not in a city
Away from everyone there is no pity
All of this was told by Doctor Luke
A Gentile knowing life’s not a fluke

So, this is what I’ll say to you
God is real and the devil is too
Heaven or hell to which will you go?
If it’s not to hell Repent to know

Like Simon the tanner when you get home
You’ll know you’re on solid rock not loam
There will be no more stinky smelly mess
You’ll be in God’s glory and righteousness
