Generosity in Action: A Reflection on Helping the Poor



“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deeds.”
— Proverbs 19:17

This scripture speaks to the deep concern God has for the poor. Every day, we encounter people on the streets asking for money, but often, we hesitate because we don't know how they'll use it. However, what we do for others in secret, God rewards in His own mysterious ways.

When I see someone standing by the roadside with a sign asking for help, I try to imagine what life would be like in their shoes. God created all of us in His image, regardless of our economic limitations.

Too often, people are quick to dismiss the poor, but helping them doesn't always have to involve money. Sometimes, they just need a decent meal or a small act of kindness. Everyone struggles at some point in life, and while some might argue that the poor made bad decisions, we don't always know their story.

Matthew 5:16 says,
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven."
Helping the poor is like telling them, "I see you," and allowing the light of Christ to shine through us. Are they truly poor, or are they simply struggling to get by? God expects us to help those in need. Remember, Jesus didn’t always have a place to lay His head, and Paul the apostle experienced poverty at times, too. The Bible encourages us to go out of our way to help the poor, trusting that God will reward us in return. And He will.

This was a good reflection and a reminder to be empathetic to others.
I would have liked it to be unpacked a little more. You have some good points that could have been expanded. Nevertheless, you gave food for thought! Well done.
