Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:6 NKJV
Hangry. A new word formed from two other words – hungry and angry – meaning bad-tempered or irritable as a result of hunger. Have you ever felt hangry? I have. I have also been around others who have been hangry. It’s not fun! I remember when my kids were little and how they would act when they got hungry. They would scream, cry, throw tantrums, and be cranky. They were HANGRY.
When our basic needs go unmet, our attitude reflects that. We get moody, we have a lack of focus, we get headaches, and more. These are clues that our body needs nourishment. This happens because we have conditioned our bodies by giving it food regularly. This is not a “one and done” activity. Our bodies need food daily to survive. And most of us do a good job taking care of our bodies in this way.
But what about our spiritual hunger. I’ve seen many hangry people when it comes to their physical bodies. But I don’t see a lot of spiritually hangry Christians. I believe the reason for this is that we live in a Word-deficient culture. Many Christians rarely, if ever pick up the Bible to read it. Their spiritual bodies aren’t conditioned to receive the nourishment of scripture. Because they haven’t conditioned themselves to need spiritual nourishment, they don’t become hangry for the Word of God! They are spiritually malnourished. If we don’t develop our appetite for spiritual food, our strength will fail us when we face troubles and trials.
The Bible tells us that if we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we will be filled. This too, like physical hunger, isn’t a “one and done” activity. We need to develop a daily appetite for God’s Word, so our spiritual bodies are nourished and ready for anything that comes our way. Then we will have the strength we need to face our troubles and trials. When we are satisfied physically, we have the energy to do what we need to do. When we are satisfied spiritually, we have the energy to carry out God’s plan for our lives, and by doing that, we can make a difference in this life.

At times I found myself re-reading the article to check if a phrase or word had been used previously. Whereas this might not be an issue I personally found it a little distracting but all a challenging idea.

I felt it a clever take on the topic.
I had the thought that sometimes God's children do get 'hangry', and it is cured when they turn to spiritual food for sustenance.
Although when real starvation sets in hunger is often not recognized - so it works both ways.
Great entry.
