But this morning, Laura Beth would face the consequences of her new life’s choices. Her body completely worn out, drained and exhausted began to fatigue. Lucky it was Saturday, She slept the whole day.
It was evening when she heard the doorbell. A hand written card to Miss Laura Beth had been left. She recognized the handwriting and ripped open the envelope. Questioning what was wrong with her grandparents?
It read: Laura Beth, Come home for the summer. We miss your cheerful smile. Love Poppa.
It was not difficult to leave the city. Laura Beth drove her new Chevy pickup through Northern Ontario’s rustic country-roads. The rugged landscape of forests, rivers and lakes covering the expanse of the Canadian Shield was overwhelming and at times intoxicating. Finally the last mile, a steep, winding narrow road that led to Granary Lake. She breathed fresh air and for the first time LB became excited. Old forgotten memories of her childhood flooded, to soothe and calm her tired soul.
The ranch styled homestead shone intently, the thrill of being home grew as Laura Beth witnessed lights hanging everywhere. The place was lit up like a Christmas tree. And in the middle of all the lights, standing on the cedar deck, Nana and Poppa waving the arrival of their precious granddaughter.
“How did you know?” She surrendered into the welcoming arms of her Poppa.
“Your grandfather hasn’t changed when it comes to his granddaughter.” Nana gave a hug or two.
“Poppa has become a mighty man of prayer. He talks with Holy Spirit asking who has a need today. The answer was Laura Beth. Poppa and I began to pray for you.”
“It’s better to find rest in the arms of a loving family.” Grandfather smiled.
At the break of dawn, Laura Beth woke to the familiar call of a Whippoorwill and content she instantly fell back to sleep.
Nana gave a gentle knock on her bedroom door. “Breakfast is ready.”
“I’ll be there shortly.” LB responded.
“We didn’t mean to wake you so early. We want to tell you about some changes we have made.” Poppa explained as he sipped his last bit of coffee. “Remember, before you left we were trying to decide whether to sell or stay.
Nana smiling, “Your Poppa had a brilliant idea, why not seek the Lord’s advice.”
“The Lord gave us a strange verse to examine.” Luke 5:39. “We prayed for a long while. Holy Spirit spoke, Nana pointed above the kitchen table.
Enjoy the fullness of age, as you embrace new birth.
“Jesus makes all things new; maybe our old ways of living weren’t reflective of the warmth of his goodness.” Poppa explained. “To do something new, we needed to change our old ways of thinking.”
“As each new day begins, Poppa and I kneel to pray. Every day Holy Spirit answers our prayer.” Nana left the kitchen to answer the doorbell.
“We became so frustrated with our selfishness. Our prayer, as we surrendered was Jesus help us to be doers rather than takers.” Popper reached for LB’s hand. “Then Holy Spirit began sending those in need to our door and taught us how to be a blessing.”
“Poppa everyone has arrived come to the main living room.”
“Our prayer is, as you meet our friends and see what we have accomplished that you might consider staying to continue our dream. Come Laura Beth showing is better than telling.” Poppa brought his granddaughter to meet their friends. “I would like to introduce our granddaughter, Laura Beth.”

Keep writing.
I suppose it is focused enough on the tearing/spilling aspect of the given Scripture. I hope so as it is a great story.
