As I stood at the kitchen counter preparing yet another meal I couldn't help but smile to myself. After all I was in the middle of doing exactly what I said I would never do. At what point did I lose control of this situation I wondered.
Our relationship had started off so innocently. I had entered into it fully informed, making sure that everything was done correctly. Yet somehow the tables got turned somewhere along the way.
He basically stole my heart when I wasn't even looking and I found myself doing the strangest things. It started off with him controlling the time I got up in the morning, there was no sleeping in for me anymore. Then he began dictating my exercise routine, even during inclement weather I found myself lacing up my walking shoes. Can you believe he even tried to control the time I spent on the telephone?
Somehow I have allowed an irresistable ball of fur to control my life! Before becoming a dog owner I thought it was hilarious whenever I heard of an owner cooking for a dog. I had vowed that this would never be my story, oh no, only canned dog food for my puppy. The straw that broke the camels back is that I now find myself standing over the stove cooking dinner for my dog, Cyber, every night. Trust me, this little scenario didn't happen instantly, it was a subtle takeover.
My gold and white Shih tzu came into my life at a time when I was grieving the loss of my mother. She had been gone for only three months when I introduced him into my household. Slowly but surely I found myself emerging from a cloud of depression as I took him walking along the pathways near my home. I had no more excuses to lie in bed as I had the responsibility of caring for him and in the process I began to care for myself again. After a rough day at work, he would greet me at the door with spins and yelps of delight and a tail that wagged I love you. He gave me a reason to get out of bed in the morning even when I sometimes didn't feel I had the strength.
I know that the Lord was with me all along the way. My dog, Cyber, was the answer to a prayer for the Lord to help me get through the most difficult time of my life. I never knew that a miracle could increase in size from a mere three pounds to sixteen pounds! It amazing how the Lord can increase good things in our lives even when at first it may start off small. In time and with nuturing it can florish and grow in fullness.
Even though I Iovingly complain that Cyber is controlling, I have to admit that he is a bright spark in what was a very dark period of my life. As I continue to rise beyond my grief I thank God for loving me enough to send me an eager little friend who controls my heart in a very positive way.
