Topic: GENTLE (10/21/21)
One of the greatest joys I experience while reading is when I forget myself and become part of it. The passage in scripture about the widow of Nain ( Luke 7:11-16, KJV), is an example. As I read those words I find myself walking with Jesus, one of the 'much people', verse 11, who follow Him. As we near the city gates of Nain, we see a funereal procession approaching. We move aside for it is the Law of Moses that we should not be contaminated by an unclean dead body. Out of curiosity, I stand on tip- toe, to look at the dead body.

But Jesus is looking at the weeping and wailing woman who follows the beir. He walks over and tenderly tells her not to weep and as the astonished and bewildered crowed watches, He reaches and touches the unclean and forbidden beir! Not only that, He talks to the dead man and says, "Young man, I say unto thee, arise". And the multitude, frozen with fear and amazement , watch as the man sits up and speaks. The spell is broken and the silence explodes into a loud cry of joy glorifying God for His miraculous mercy.

The story concludes with the words, 'And there came a fear on all : and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited His people,( verse 16).' Today, as I sit back and reminisce on this inspiring experience, my heart fills with gratitude to my Gentle Shepherd who cares so much for His wounded and broken sheep, that even the Law is Moses is no barrier to His mercy. I recollect St. Paul's words in his letter to the Galatians, that there is no law against the spirit of gentleness ( Galatians 5:23 KJV). It was His gentle heart, overflowing with compassion, that healed the broken heart of that widow who had lost her only son.

I, in my human weakness, saw only a dead young man on a bier. But Jesus with His gentle compassion saw a desperate weeping mother. And that is what makes Him my Gentle Shepherd, my Savior and my Lord.

This story has great potential and the conclusion is phenomenal. However, rather than telling the reader what you like to do, PUT yourself into the story and have the reader see what you see, smell what you smell and feel what you feel. Emotion is what drives stories. Don't be afraid to go to that place!! Keep writing!
