Eve approached a new path in the garden. A path perfect for a Sunday afternoon stroll. She loved days like this. Lazy Sunday afternoons. Afternoons meant for enjoyment.
The path was absolutely stunning. It looked almost like glass as she walked the shiny surface. Along the path beautiful flowers were planted for her enjoyment. Father knew her favorite was hydrangea. This particular path was filled with many beautiful bushes.
White.
Blue.
Pink.
She couldn’t help but stop and smell each one, touching each beautiful color. “Father sure knows how to plant a garden,” she thought.
In the middle of this garden was a golden bench, carved with a beautiful design. She walked over to the bench, rubbing her hand along its surface. It was so smooth and so beautiful.
And so inviting.
She decided to sit for a spell and enjoy the scenery around her. Soon, she realized, she was not alone. She smiled as she heard the voice of her Father come up behind her.
He loved to surprise her with moments like this.
“Do you like your garden Eve?”
“Oh yes, Father, I love every inch of it.”
“I made this garden for your enjoyment. There is much to explore in my garden, and every beautiful detail has been created with you in mind.”
“Thank you Father. You are so kind and generous in all you have given to me. I love every section of your garden, and every day I see something new. I hear a new sound. See a new animal. Smell a new flower. It is all so amazing and exciting. The best part is when you walk with me. I love our little talks. I love it when, together, we see something new. Come sit with me for awhile.”
“My daughter, I’d love nothing more than to sit with you. I delight to give this garden to you. Treat it well. Take care of all that I have given you. Most of all, never lose your desire to spend time with me.”
As her Father patted her hand he said, “This is the best part of my day as well. I love to see your excitement. The pleasure in your eyes at each new thing. Seeing you happy brings true joy to my own heart. Carry on, my dear.”
With these words, her Father left. She was alone again with her thoughts.
How amazing my Father is. He thought of everything I would need to walk through this life. He has given me contentment, joy, and peace. Most of all, he has shown me his love. Love for the present. Love for the future.
As she sat reflecting, a snow white lamb walked up to her.
“Hey beautiful one” she mused. “What are you doing here today?”
The lamb laid his head in her lap as she tenderly rubbed his head.
“Little one” she whispered, “I don’t think you have a name yet. I would like to name you.”
As she pondered a name, the lamb laid down resting his head on her feet.
Eve chuckled at this gesture. “You are such a sweet, loving, gentle lamb. You need a name befitting your character. But what should it be?”
She entertained several names in her mind but none of them seemed to fit. He was a special lamb and special lambs needed a special name. He would be her lamb. He would walk with her every day. She could talk to him. She saw her Father in the distance smile at the two of them.
“I will name you Redeemer” she said. “Would you like that name?”
The lamb lifted his head as if to say “yes”.
With the name decided, her Father nodded.
Little did Eve realize the significance of this lamb in her life. Little did she know what she was about to do in a few days. Little did she know how much she would need a lamb, her Redeemer, to rescue her.
While Sunday was being enjoyed, Friday was coming. Her destiny with the enemy.
