TITLE: The Birthday Game | Previous Challenge Entry

The previous day began like any other Saturday, other than it happened to be Allison’s twenty-sixth birthday, Keith knocked on the door with his usual “Keith” knock. “Come on in,” Allison said as she scrambled to get her left shoe on. She ran out of her bedroom into Keith’s waiting arms. They fell into the over-stuffed chair nearby.
“Want some coffee?” asked Allison as she scooted off Keith’s lap. She saw Keith pull out a paper from his back pocket.
“No thanks.” He handed over a handwritten note. Allison gave out a squeal like a three-year old would after getting a present. She opened the note she held in her shaking hand.
She read out loud… “Allison, I couldn’t think of anything to get you for your birthday, not to mention, you have told me that I’m not allowed to get anything more, so, I have decided to try and make this birthday at least a little special by sending you down memory lane with a scavenger hunt. I have enlisted the help of a chauffeur for you and will start you off with your first clue. Our weekend of excitement has begun. It's time now to have some fun. So, go to the place that reflects your face and there you'll find clue number one.
Allison immediately ran to the living room where she found along the side of the mirror, clue number one.
Once again, she stood and read the note:
“Since you’re likely just getting up and moving around, let’s start your morning off right: Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it mild and some like it bold. Time to hit the road with Jessica. Go here and ask for the “Birthday” special. Jessica was her best friend and was outside waiting in her car to begin Allison’s birthday journey. Off they drove to the coffee shop which Keith referred to.
At the coffee shop, Allison was not only given her “birthday” drink but attached to the bottom of the cup was another clue. “I guess we’re off to the farmer’s market, Jessica. I’m supposed to look for corn on the cob.” Sure enough, as she approached the corn on the cob bin, she spotted yet another clue.
After three more clues, she was directed to head home to get her final clue.
Allison was beyond excited. She flung the car door open of Jessica’s car and ran up to her front door, nearly falling on that crack she hadn’t fixed yet. She gained her composure and opened the door, but Keith was no where to be seen. Allison eyed another note on her coffee table. It read:
“You’ve done well, and you must want to know just what I have as a gift for my special gal,” read the final note. She continued… “Meet me in your family room for the finality of this game.”
She scurried back to her family room and flung the door open. There she found Keith on one knee holding a ring box in his hand. She nearly tripped on the area rug in front of the sofa but gained her balance quickly. Anticipating what he was about to ask, tears welled up in her eyes.
Keith looked up at the young lady who had become one of the most important people in his life and asked… “Will you marry me?”
Instead of Allison answering yes, she blurted out “Does a bear have hair?” They both laughed hysterically and embraced as Keith got up from his proposal position.
She came back to the reality of the present and stopped the movie in her head. She quickly drew her hand up from under her ample layers of blankets and looked at her left hand. Oooohhhh, the ring was so beautiful, and she was now engaged. It sparkled as she moved her hand back and forth as the sun hit the center of it. She couldn’t have picked a more beautiful ring. As she came to the realization that she was going to be a bride, she jumped up and let out a rambunctious squeal. She had a wedding to plan, and she couldn’t wait.
