I thought about it and decided that to occupy meant that I should go into the marketplace and trade the pound and see what I could gain from it. The first merchant offered a small Persian rug of various colors for the pound. Another merchant offered a larger rug of lesser quality for the Persian rug.
I was starting to feel more comfortable doing this, and I became bolder in my dealings as the days and weeks passed. I began to look forward to going around and dealing with various people and their shops.
I continued for the next several weeks to trade items and collected a large amount of merchandise. I sold all of it to one merchant for eight pounds. Then I went around again to the various merchants, bringing them all sorts of things to trade and barter with.
Then something awful happened. One day as I was getting everything together, I accidentally dropped several large pieces of steak on the ground. Before I could get them, a large dog gulped down all the steak.
This was a major setback, and one that I could scarcely afford. However, I decided to learn from my mistake and continue on. It took a while to recover, but after some time I traded all the stuff I had for ten pounds. I felt I should put the entire ten pounds into the bank, so it would be safe until my master returned.
Ten days later the master returned and informed all of us that he had received the kingdom. The next day, he called all of his servants together. He wanted to know how much we earned while he was away. I was one of the first the master asked to explain what we did and how much we earned.
I explained how I started out with one pound and turned it into ten pounds plus interest. My master was intrigued with my tale of large trades and the number of merchants I dealt with. I know he enjoyed the way I traded for what I wanted and how I maneuvered the trades so I would be able to deposit ten pounds into the bank.
I was delighted when the master told me I could keep the ten pounds I had earned for myself. He wanted me rewarded for all of my hard work. I was surprised the next day when one of the other servants presented me with a gift of one more pound. He said the master wanted me to have a special reward. It came from one of the unprofitable servants who had not attempted to do anything with his pound but had merely placed it in a napkin and stored it in a safe place.
My master said, “Unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.” Luke 19:26 (KJV)
I am happy I did what the master asked when he said, “Occupy until I come.” Luke 19:13 (KJV)
This story is based on Luke 19:11-27 (KJV)

It might come across more clearly as "Another merchant offered a larger rug of lesser quality (which I considered and traded) for the Persian rug."
Something like that to clarify what was transpiring without the reader needing to go back and read again.
Other than that suggestion you wrote a good analogy on the parable of the talents.
