As rings are slipped onto each other’s fingers, it is a promise made to love. Weddings represent a special promise between a man and a woman to love one another. The ring signifies the unending promise of love. The visual picture of love between a couple warms all who witness this gala event. It is a special love that all people seek during their lifetime.

True love that is by choice, where a commitment is made, originated with God. His passion for His people overrides all other love imagined on earth. He calls us His Bride…a term of committed, heart-squeezing, and sacrificial love that can only be experienced through a relationship with God. God strongly desires that relationship with us. He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). Bask in the glow of God’s unending love for you.

We experience God’s true love as we are in a communal relationship with Him. It begins with God, not with us. God draws us into relationship with Him (Jer. 31:3). God’s love is true as written in the Bible. The love that humans have is, unfortunately, filtered through a world riddled with sin. God is love and has modeled love in countless ways.

Perhaps you’ve experienced the pain of rejection, be it from a breakup or being chosen last on the basketball team. Rejoice in knowing that God chose you (2 Thes. 2:13) to love and to save by His grace and mercy. From the very beginning, God had a plan to love you (Jer. 29:11). That plan will last an eternity (Psalm 103:17). God delights in being your first true love.

This is very true - God really should be our first love, and everything else coming after that.

The image of the rings in a wedding ceremony had me remembering my oldest sister's wedding just a few months ago... such a happy time.
