The policeman took my license and registration and said, “I will be right back.”
He was gone a long time. I could not think of any reason why I would be pulled over. I was not speeding, I had just come from an event as Hugs the Clown having performed a magic show and made everyone a balloon at a nursing home. I was still in my clown costume. He finally came back to my car.
“Your driver's license has been suspended. You did not pay a ticket in Delaware a year ago.”
I said, “I know I paid that last year, sir.”
He said. “For driving without a license I could take you to jail and give you eight citations.”
Here I am a senior dressed in a clown costume. I must have looked quite concerned. But he continued, “I will only give you two citations.” He then told me how to contact Delaware and get my paid receipt to take to Maryland so I can get my license reinstated.
“Just make sure you do not drive till you take care of this. Do you have someone to drive you home?”
I was only a few blocks from the house, I said “No one, sir.”
He thought about it for a second then said, “Do you see that parking lot over there. Pull in there and park. I will go on down the road.”
I did as he said but it took a few moments to catch on to what he was doing. He couldn’t say I am letting you drive home without a license. He was saying I am going down the road so I won’t see you drive home. God took care of an impossible situation.
I made lots of calls to Delaware, finally got the right department. They saw I had paid the ticket and would let Maryland know. Because they did not notify them at the time, I was driving without a valid license for a year! I had a friend take me to get my license, cost me $20.00. Was so glad to be legal again.
A week later I went to visit my daughter. I was bringing a big pile of clothes and her little French Bulldog. I did not put her leash on thinking she would follow me, but she didn’t. I put everything down got her collar on and gathered up everything. We had a nice lunch and a walk. When I got ready to leave I could not find my purse, thank God I had my keys and phone We looked all over even back by my car, no purse. I probably dropped it by my the car and someone picked it up.
I had to return to the MVA and get another license another $20.00. It is no fun having to notify the bank, credit cards and get another purse. I also needed another registration.
Exactly one week later I received a US Post Box on my porch. I had not ordered anything and was very curious about what it could be. To my very pleasant surprise, there was my purse! Everything was in it only a $20.00 bill was missing. I would think it was almost impossible to have someone steal a purse and return it.
Like many other people I have had a number of times when I thought I couldn't get there from here, it seemed impossible. Without my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and His grace, mercy, provision, protection and Loving care I would not have made it. I live by the power of the Holy Spirit and His word. One of my favorite proverbs is Proverbs 3:4-5.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding,
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”
May you also trust Him to get out of your impossible situations.
He does make a way when there is no way.
