Saturday Lunch at Mamma Frankie’s



"Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice." Philippians 4:4 (Living Bible)

I must hurry, today is “Lunch Day at Mamma Frankie’s” and I feel sure it is just about the only thing that could make me want to get up this morning. Outside, it is bitter cold and these covers are so warm and comfortable. I can hear the February wind whistling outside of my window and it would so nice if I could stay in bed a little longer. I find, however, that the thought of family and friends gathering together in joyous laughter and sharing in some delectable comfort food is the driving force to motivate me on this particularly dreary Saturday morn.

What a rich tradition there is to pass on to a generation so accustomed to snaffling up fast food. I am so in awe of the dedicated effort of this extraordinary lady, Mamma Frankie, who offers this affable gift of hospitality to family and friends in a time when it is so much easier to say, "why bother?" Without it, this would be just another ordinary day.

Wonderful aromas greet each member of this blessed group as they enter the cozy home. There is always a spirit of anticipation in how the day will progress. Will we all gather around the piano in an attempt to harmonize to a favorite hymn of long ago or will we join our voices in unison to simply sing one verse from the doxology "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow?"

The only thing I do know for sure is that I am so glad to have been invited to join this clan. So, clear the way; I am jumping out of bed and into the shower while there is still time to get there on time!

You really achieve the picture of "cozy, delicious hospitality" with this short piece-- makes me want to be part of the gathering at Mamma Frankie's!
