Come as you are

It is silent.

Time evaporates into eternity. Goosebumps alight upon those seated. A hallowed hush levitates itself over those in the valley. The deep dark night of the soul squiggles and squirms finding no comfortable comfort or corner to call home.

The Word of God has laid bare the secrets of man. No place to run, no place to hide … souls ponder. With mere silence the volume is raised. The pitter patter of soiled hearts beat out an oh so familiar tune.

The silence splashes over into overtime. Invisible hands caress. The scent of myrrh wiggles a few noses. Pure Love exasperates. Nonsensical acceptance confuses. Undeserved favor beckons. Come.

Others sense a fiery furnace. A hideous harshness bristles. Foaming fears and icy fingers about the throat; this is the last time for you, come.

Silence.

At last, the creak of an old chair. A moan to stand. Shuffling feet waft bits of saw dust from between the well-worn floor boards. A hunched over form hobbles to the front.

Turning.

Swollen eyes glitter. A cane to steady. Words are few. The face contorts as emotions banter between Heavenly Happiness and remembrances of horrors as yet untold. Honesty has found a new home.

Silence.

Unholy memories quicken the monsoon. Interior explosions violently shake. Whimpers are heard throughout the hall. Words are few.

Silence.

The Master is doing His best work.

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12,13 NIV.

Silence slips out the side door. The sobs cease. The dam breaks. Words come.

Confession.

It takes great courage to be honest. Honest before people. Honest before yourself. Honest before God.

Cowards, they lie and die.

Honest folks, well, they live and live forever.

I loved it. All the descriptive words and phrases captured my ears and senses. I wondered about the meaning of many of them, and during my second reading, I could only imagine how each person’s life experiences might interpret the meaning. Wonderful leading to the Truth and repentance at the ending. Very creative.
