Topic: YEAR (05/17/18)
A year can be a symbol of time and of the future, some see a year or years as a huge task that needs to be completed. In the context of time and future, a year, when broken down gives months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. A couple of years joined together makes a person's future which over a long period of time makes up their life. A future is a later time, going or likely to happen or exist. It is this uncertainty about what is to come that makes each year seem so ominous.

As each year passes, a year is gone from our future and from our lives and because it is so intimidating we tend to focus on how to tackle the future or how to get to the end of the year without truly living each moment out. Mathew 6:34 (GNB) says, 'so do not worry about tomorrow, it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings.

God knows exactly what we need at every point, he has us all inscribed in the palm of his hand and being the loving father he is, he gave us that advice in Mathew 6:34. It is perhaps were we got the phrase, 'Take one step at a time'. Sometimes, when we try to tackle a problem from a gestalt perspective, it will seem like an insurmountable problem to us but when we break it down into little bits that can be handled each day, the problem will seem less threatening.

The reason why a situation or circumstance seems unmovable or why some people who have been betrayed or hurt badly wonder if they could ever get through it is because they unknowingly cram a week or a month's worth of trouble into one day. The problem will look like a mountain threatening to swallow them but if they make the decision to do as God says and tackle each day one at a time we see that as more days pass and turn to weeks and weeks to months and months to years, suddenly they notice that the situation has passed.

Ultimately a year or years symbolizes time and as the word of God says in Mathew 6:34, 'each day has its own trouble', it does not do to dwell in the troubles of the coming day or the coming week because that worry has the potential to rub of your present. God is ever gracious that he also gave us an answer to our worries in Philliapian 4:6-7 (NLT) , 'Don't worry about anything instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Whenever I get a plan or idea in my head, I would always get overwhelmed by all the details, the different tasks that need to be done would form a huge wall and crowd me in until I finally back out. God used my younger brother Harris to remind me to take one step at a time, an advice I would never forget. As each year passes I try not to look at all the things that could go wrong but to take each day and tackle it with the grace of God. It is my hope that my write-up inspires you the way it inspired me.
