Later doubts begin to creep in. "But you promised". How careful we must be to explain why we cannot keep our word and not disillusion young minds.
We hope those in charge of our country's affairs are people we can rely on to serve us with justice and integrity. But we are disillusioned when they act in their own interests.
When we buy goods we expect we will get what we asked for. This is the whole basis of our economy. We have the right to return goods not up to our expectations or shoddy. Businesses appoint a board of responsible people to look to the interests of the shareholders.
Young children can have an older person to look after their welfare if their parents are not able to do this. These persons have a great responsibility to carry out their position. We have many illustrations when this faith has been misplaced. Our orphans and half caste aboriginal young people have been hurt when these people do not fulfil their obligations. We have the stolen generations of both white and aboriginal children. Also those who were brought to Australia as youth migrants without their parents knowledge and permission.
When we become older we put someone younger to look after our interests and act on our behalf. If we do not make a will divulging the division of our assets, the state appoints a person to do this.
The Christian faith is built on believing what we learn and putting it into practice. There is an old book called "A Belief that Behaves" based on the book of James.
One time we were going to catch a plane to travel to Queensland to visit our son. I went out the front door to check our mailbox, and did not close the door. Just then our taxi to the airport arrived.
On our return after a week away, I accidentally dropped the front door key in my sons car. When he had seen us off, and found the key, he rushed to give the key to the check in. I never received it.
When we arrived home I could not find the key. I went to the front door and found it wide open. No one had been inside, nor was anything missing. We had a spare key. God was looking after us and our house keeping us safe.
