Tonight I am fighting my own battle. It’s not against another gladiator but it might as well be. You see, mine is more of an invisible battle. I am sleepy. I am so tempted to crawl under the covers and call it a night. My body wants rest but my mind fights to write what is in my heart. You see, I desperately want to write my story for this week's FaithWriters challenge. Writing is my passion. It’s how I make sense of my world. I believe it’s something God has placed within me and I want to honor him. And yet, the struggle is real. It feels like I am fighting a gladiator and am on the losing end of the sword.
I decide to text my sisters to share my struggle. It’s the same struggle each week - what to write about. I tell them I am feeling tired and want to crawl under the covers and sleep. They say, “Sis, you’ve had a tough week, it’s important to get sleep. It’s ok. You don’t have to write something for every challenge.” What? I thought, of course I do. I want to. There are so many times I want to just run away from writing but deep down know I can’t. And yet, I will ask my husband – why do I want to write? Am I insane? It’s not always easy putting sentences together.
I really do want to grow stronger in my writing abilities. I am taking some writing courses. I have so many writing books on my Kindle I am thankful I will never have to pack them all when I move. I may feel tired but I definitely won’t give up. I want to be indefatigable. I love that word – Indefatigable and yet I know it’s something I can’t do entirely on my own. I need God’s help. His strength, guidance and power. It’s about putting one word in front of the other and trusting in God to carry me through. When I get to heaven I want to hear God say, well done faithful servant. God has entrusted me with a gift. I want to honor that gift with my whole heart. I pray and ask God for his help because I desperately need it. I have learned I can’t do this without him.
When I finally do start to write I feel alive and strong. There something so exhilarating about taking an idea or a scripture and seeing where it leads me. There are twists and turns, ups and downs but it’s amazing watching the words start falling into place. It’s almost like each word is a piece of puzzle and I can’t wait to see what the finished piece looks like. There is so much power in the words we use. It’s fun to just start typing the words onto the computer screen until I feel emptied for the day.
There are some things in life that are just worth fighting for. We can fight for what is right and good. We can fight for our health, our children or our marriages. The bottom line is to never give up. To remember God is in control and gives us what we need. He strengthens and helps us. All we need to remember is each time we face our gladiators it’s always two against one.
Isaiah 41:10

We Faithwriters would all "get it", but the article might be lost to those outside this context.
Maybe to be more understandable to outside readers, you may want to make it more general. As a writer, I struggle putting pen to paper.
