Psalm 119:112

I have decided to obey your laws until the day I die.

I was reading through the Psalms recently, and came across this verse in chapter 119. It was interesting to me that resolutions have been made for thousands of years; even by a King-King David to be exact. What stuck me most was the simple thought that the Psalmist (decided) to obey the law of God, and as Christians must decide to do the same. We need to have determination, and the unfaltering self-will to do what is right on a daily basis-even when it hurts or is unpopular.

Reading this verse got me to thinking that maybe this years resolutions could be different for me. Instead of writing out my top 2 or 3 resolutions-you know things like:

1) Lose weight-(30 lbs.) ok, ok I have had the same resolution for the past 30 years!

2) Join the local gym-you bet I'll get right on it.

3) Dye my hair blond-why? Will it make me look thinner?

Maybe, just maybe I should look in my Bible for something different, and that even come with a promise. So, here are just a few verses I found for my 2016 New Year Resolutions.

Colossians 3:23
I resolve that whatever I do this year, I will do it heartily, as unto The Lord and not unto man.

Psalm 146:2
I WILL sing praises to my God...(I actually had to put this in practice today!)

Psalm 26:1
I am determined to walk in my integrity, and trust The Lord without wavering.

2Timothy 1:7
This year, I will remember that God has not given me a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound and self-disciplined mind.

Lastly, I love Joshua 1:8 that reminds me to meditate on God's Laws day and night, for then I will have great success.
