“What happened to them?” Ben asked while wrapping his hand around her shoulders to help console her.
“I don’t know. Maybe the film was too old, or they messed up when they developed them. They gave us a credit for our next purchase, but that doesn’t bring back these once in a lifetime photos of our trip.”
It was Trudy and Ben’s first vacation some thirty years ago. Back then, a film in your camera could take about 24 pictures. The film is then taken to the photo shop or drug store to be developed. About a week later, you could pick up your pictures.
“Do you still remember that first vacation we took Trudy? Hand in hand, we walked along the beach at Lake Michigan. I also remember that path we took along a stream with seven bridges and beautiful trees along the way. At the end of the path was an archway where another couple was getting married.”
“Yea and I remember how goofy you were when I was trying to take some pictures, making funny faces and hilarious poses. Wish we had those pictures now.”
“See, you don’t need those photos, you have a photographic memory. I’ll bet you remember it as if it was yesterday”
“I guess the mind does remember the things that are really important to us. Pictures only act as a tool to spark that memory. Pictures are nice to have, but the memories stored up in my mind are what’s precious to me. The Lord has blessed us with a wonderful mind and a memory that is unbelievable.”
“You know Ben; I think God made a way for us to remember all His promises. When I read the Bible stories of Abraham, Noah, or David and Goliath, I can get an image in my mind of what they looked like and how they reacted in their situations. Even when I think of Jesus, I have an image of Him that always seems to be the same. When I need a hug, I can feel His presence and picture His arms around me.”
“What do you say we take another vacation Trudy and make some more memories? Let’s leave the camera at home and just enjoy the moment.”
