But with all the strength the child could muster, he ventured through the woods and to the river.
There he met a fox.
“What is your name?”, asked the child.
“I am Mr. Fox. What is your business here?”, replied the fox.
“I am off to see my Father by the river. Do you want to come?”
“Your father, eh? I don’t know… I’m quite busy. Who is your father?”
“My Father is the creator of all things, you and I. He cares for me amongst all things, forgives me despite all things, and loves me beyond all things.”
“He sounds interesting. But I really don’t know. I am too busy; I don’t have time to meet your father. Perhaps another time. I have so many things to do. I really don’t have time.”, said the fox that continuously shook his head from left to right while speaking.
“I am very sorry to hear that Mr. Fox.” And off the little child went.
Further in the woods, the little child stopped to eat the biscuits he carried with him. He sat on a small rock near a tree when he heard little chirps.
“Good morning, birds!” The child cheerfully greeted them.
“Good morning to you! Please, call me Mrs. Robin and these are my little robins. Would you like some worms to go with the thing you’re eating?”
The child shook his head, afraid that Mrs. Robin might send down one juicy worm and politely said, “No, thank you Ma’am. Would you like some biscuits up there?”
“Oh no, no, thank you. I can take crumbs though.”
The little child took a small piece of his biscuit and grinded it with his fingers. He set it down for Mrs. Robin. She went down and pecked.
“Where are you off to anyway?”
“To the river. I am off to see my Father.” Said the child.
“You’re off to see your father? My little robins have not seen their father as well.”
“Really? Maybe they can come with me, then they’ll see Father! He is the most caring, most faithful, most kind, most generous and most loving Father.” the child said enthusiastically.
“Go there?! No, I can’t possibly allow that! He’s one no-good, uncaring, and unfaithful father! I do not believe what you’re saying. I used to think he was what you just enumerated but I have lost all my faith in him when he died on us.”
Sadly, the child finished his biscuit and said, “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that Mrs. Robin.”
And then he continued his walk towards the river. Finally after many hours, he came close to the place where he wanted to pray.
He drew himself to the water and looked at his reflection.
“Hello there! My name is Trout.”
“Hello to you to, Mr. Trout. I am here to see my Father”
“Ha! Your father? Only fishes and underwater creatures live here.” The fish laughed at the silliness of the child.
“No, along with the many creatures here lives my Father. He is within each creature, dwelling inside every one, even you and I.” Said the child.
“Oh my, what have they been feeding you out there? This father of yours does not live anywhere here and in me. I would certainly feel it if he lived in me.”
“But He is everywhere. He is every good feeling inside you. He is joy & peace. He is love. Would you like to see him too, sir?” The little child asked Mr. Trout.
“Um, no. I do not feel these things so I don’t need to see him. I do not want to know your father.”
Sadly, the little child shook his head and whispered, “I am sorry to hear that Mr. Trout”
Then the little child went to the bank to pray. He knelt down and began to talk to his Father.
He prayed that every fox, bird and fish he might meet might recognize the goodness and love of God. He prayed that these creatures might regain all faith that was once lost in his Father.
Right there, the heart of the child was blessed with a season of spring – in constant bloom and filled with hope.
