Topic: Cat and Dog (09/04/14)
I would suppose everyone has heard the expression ‘raining cats and dogs’ or ‘fighting like cats and dogs’. Have you ever wondered what ‘raining cats and dogs’ might have meant to Noah? Or what ‘fighting like cats and dogs’ might have meant when God locked the door of the ark?

When the ark began to fill up with two of every animal, Noah might have truly felt like it REALLY was doing just that! His daily conversations might have gone like this.

“I don’t know, God. I knew we were supposed to take care of the animals, but where am I going to put them all? It seems they never stop coming! They are pouring in from everywhere.”

“It’s ONLY two of each, Noah! Just build the ark and let me worry about where they will reside inside. Just be glad YOU have a place on the ark.”

“I guess You are right as usual. I need to be counting my blessings and praising You with all of my heart. I sure didn’t realize though that there were so many different types of cats and dogs! No wonder it took Adam so long to name them all…not to mention every other animal!”

As the days went by Noah and his family continued to put together the ark as specified by God. The work was hard and the jeers and laughter he drew from his so-called friends and neighbors was wearing him down. It took a mountain of self control not to sass back.

The day had arrived! Every animal was in a stall or cage. Supplies were lade on board and Noah’s family took their places in their cabins. The thunder roared and the wind howled. The sky lit up with megawatt lightning. Noah’s friends and neighbors were not laughing now. He could hear their screams as God shut the door.

It had begun raining ‘cats and dogs’ and soon the ark rocked to and fro and began to float as the water rose. Noah checked each deck and found everything to be in order. This utterly stunned him. For some strange reason, the cats and dogs were ensconced on the same deck and none of them were growling or hissing at one another. As a matter of fact, the entire ark was eerily quiet.

“Noah, Noah. Didn’t I tell you I would handle arrangements on the ark? Why are you doubting me? In your heart you know all things are possible with me. Just remember to trust and obey me and all will be well!”

“Yes, Lord. Forgive me for trying to take matters into my own hands. I do trust you and as one of the chosen few to make this trip I know I must rely on you.”

“FYI, Noah. I put the dogs and cats together to illustrate there can be peace among enemies. If more people practiced this I wouldn’t have had to destroy the world I made. Seems man forgot from whose image he was made. That darn Adam had to go and let his mate eat from the tree of knowledge and then couldn’t even turn his back on the temptation to eat. They had everything!”

“Yes, Lord. And now You love me and my family so much you saved us from certain death. All I have to do is tell the new world about you. I have been telling everyone I knew about You and it didn’t seem to matter to them. No one would listen.”

“And look where it got them. You humans sure are a stubborn people! Even I can only take so much. It broke my heart to flood the world. You are going to be the new beginning. Tell the new world about what is to come and I promise to never flood the world again. I set a rainbow as a signature.”

Noah sat back and relaxed. God was guiding the ship and supplying every need. It was a peaceful trip. No one fought like cats and dogs…not even the cats and dogs! Noah and his family were faithful to worship and praise their Lord every day.

Noah released the dove as instructed and inhaled fresh salt air and the fragrance of spring. He knew it wouldn’t be long until they were once again on dry soil. Then the real work would begin! His responsibilities were laid before him according to God’s will. A fresh start gleamed just over the horizon…or was that Jesus shining His glory?

An interesting take on that bible story.

We don't know all the conversations that might have taken place. I am sure many did.

Some people may be offended by the word "darn" you had put into God's conversation. It is the diminutive of the word "damn" which is used as a cuss word or swear word.

Although many people use the word "darn" with no thought, others try to guard every word that might be objectionable to God.
