..”I now pronounce you Husband and Wife! You may kiss the bride!”
It had forever been drilled into my head, “Don’t kiss any boy unless you are engaged. You won’t be known as used goods that way.” My mother had a way of saying a truism with great emphasis.
So as I grew in wisdom and stature, my lips were ever sealed. No love starved boy’s mouth would ever touch my clean lips.
This condition of purity continued on for years. My mouth went through Grade School untouched. Now, several young sprouts thought in their nasty little minds, “I will be the brave conquer who sweeps the lovely maiden off her feet, planting that first kiss upon her delicious lips.”
Their schemes didn’t work; I was much too clever for them. If I couldn’t reach them to sock them in the jaw, I would rub garlic all over my mouth so they would run away.
Now in Junior High, the story was just a little different. There were some really cute guys who would have tempted my Victorian lips. Lucky for them, all my chasing was to no avail, they just wouldn’t catch me. One young gentleman played the indifferent game. He acted like I was poison, but I knew he wanted to kiss me.
I finally reached my sixteenth birthday, thinking that now I was to meet my Prince Charming. He would sweep me off my feet as we did a floating waltz across the ballroom floor. Tenderly he would take me to his castle on the lake. But it wasn’t to be.
Later that sixteenth year, I met an older Prince. He was eighteen. We dated until I found out he only went out with me to be near my best friend whom he loved. She wouldn’t have anything to do with him. That was the end of that episode.
Still the lips were pure. Mother kept telling me, “You’ll see, it will be worth it all if you wait. You will find kissing will be a new and exciting adventure when you do find the one you will marry.
Mother had always been right about everything before, so I tucked my tail between my legs and rode off into the sunset.
I Made my way through high school and started college with my mind focused on becoming a doctor. As my life was set on studying for my medical career, I became a real book worm. The kissing caper, completely lost in the academic world, retreated to the back burner.
My mind raced through the courses, gleaning all it could learn for the first 2 years. Then bonk!!!!! THERE HE WAS - walking into church one Sunday, looking like he needed a mother. WHO BETTER THAN ME to mother him. With all my vast experience, I just knew I could be the one to rescue him from sheer
loneliness.
When he realized I was available, we started up a plutonic relationship. He informed me he had no intention of getting serious with anyone. Those words were to a baby wanting her bottle and someone trying to take it away. I let him think it was only a friendly association until he couldn’t stand it any more.
On that cool romantic night, it happened. I had him by the mouth, just like a fish biting the hook.
HE KISSED ME********. Mother was right. That first kiss was like nothing I had ever felt before. I know there was an orchestra in the front yard playing the finale to the 1812 overture with fire crackers exploding over head. If I had experienced that first kiss with just anyone, the thrill could never be the same.
God planned for His people to enjoy the courtship process. However, He expected us to keep it pure.
As my new husband gently lifted the veil from my face, he reached in with his lips and put the most delightful kiss on my lips, while that orchestra started playing the 1812 Overture again.
As husband and wife, we reared six children, 22 grandchildren and 2 great grand children. Those kisses sure paid off.

Well done, well said...and thank you for sharing a part of your life with us. Amazing way with words, content and delivery.
Fantastic.
God bless~
What a great testimony.
How many marriages would have lasted and would have created God fearing and pure children if they take this to heart.
I didn't have a problem with this for a different reason. I was too ugly and the only female that would kiss me was my dog!
Super job.
Shann as always did a great job of pointing out the grammar blips. With that being said, and nothing to add, it was a great piece.
God bless~
