Salt and pepper are sprinkled every day on a wide variety of our foods. However, I have never heard someone eat a piece of meat and say, “oh, that pepper is so good.” Likewise, I have never heard someone eat popcorn and say, “oh, that salt is so tasty.” Rather they may say, “This steak tastes so wonderful” or “this popcorn is delicious. On the other hand, a person eating a pepper steak without enough pepper or popcorn without any salt might think it tasteless.

Salt and pepper are seasonings that enhance the flavor of our food. With that in mind, what do you think the Lord is saying when He tells us, “Ye are the salt of the earth,” (Math.5:13), or when the psalmist says, “taste and see that the Lord is good,” (Psalms 34:8)”?

How can we be the salt to those we want to reach for salvation? How can we give them a taste of Jesus? For one thing, we don’t want to be demanding or condemning when presenting the Gospel. That would be like pouring on the salt and pepper and making it distasteful. People want to be able to make their own decisions. That is why the Lord gave us free will. Our purpose should be to convince rather than condemn.

Likewise, we don’t want to sit by and do nothing either. Let me suggest that we give them a little taste (seasoning) of the love of Jesus. Here are a few examples:

1) Tell them about some of the little things the Lord has done for you.

2) Pray for their need and point out when God answers that prayer.

3) Always show love by displaying the fruit of the spirit, (Gal.5:22, 23).

Let us make the gospel real tasty and desirable, so people will want what we have. Let us pepper their thoughts with how God provides our needs and heals our diseases. Let’s present the Gospel as we would any good food – it’s tasty, try some.
