Pepper: Honey, we've been together for many years now.
Salty: I can’t even remember how we met.
Pepper: Me either, but I do remember that soon after our vows you kept trying to change me.
Salty: I just wanted you to be a little less pungent. Remember that customer that almost choked to death? They had to send for an ambulance.
Pepper: She just kept shaking me on a dish my cousin chili had already visited.
Salty: What about the lady who almost when into respiratory distress after inhaling you?
Pepper: I’m not supposed to be inhaled. I’m supposed to be gently sprinkled. People have to exercise moderation when using me. So a diner’s problem is no reason for you to try and change me.
Salty: I’m not trying to change all of you. I did always love your dark graininess.
Pepper: Yes, that’s true. But think about this though. What if I tried to change you? Don't you remember what The Lord said, "If the salt has lost its savor, what good is it?"? Well, it's the same with me. If I can't be who I am, then you don't really have me. You have a watered down version.
Salty: Oh, so now you wanna flip the script? We weren't talking about me.
Pepper: No, but the same rules should apply to both of us. What good would either of us be if you weren’t you and I couldn’t be me?
Salty: I guess you have a point.
Pepper: Like I said: we’re good together just the way we are. We're made for each other.
Salt: It did take me some time to appreciate who I am. I always wanted to be a little less salty. But you never did complain. I want to thank you for that.
Pepper: Food would be tasteless without you.
Salt: And without you, it would not have the kick many people look for.
Pepper: I always knew your value. Don’t you know that the Lord wants His people to be just like you? He called them” the salt of the earth.” He didn't call them the pepper of the earth.
Salt: My mother used to always tell me that, but I didn't understand what she meant until now.
Pepper: Imagine a star that didn’t want to shine.
Salty: Or a rose that didn’t want to get to full bloom? I finally get it.
Pepper: And people need you to help preserve the substance of their lives.
Salt: Oh my goodness, I have too much responsibility on my shoulders.
Pepper: We’ll carry the load together, Hon. And that’s what the world is looking for. When people see you, they start looking for me right away.
Salt: And will complain when they can’t find either one of us.
Pepper: The world would be a different place if we weren’t together. Don’t you think so?
Salty: I do
Pepper: That’s why I’ll never let you go.
Salt: “For better or for worse”?
Pepper: “For richer or poorer.”
Salt: “In sickness and in health”?
Pepper: “To love. . .”
Salty: “And to cherish.”
Pepper: ‘”Till death do us part.”
Salt and Pepper: Amen.
