My oldest son is noted by our family for his “Oh, WOW” exclamation over anything that he considers above-and-beyond the “norm”. This exclamation usually is accompanied with a wide-eyed look and an expression of pure delight. This expression may accompany the simple serving of an extra large piece of chocolate cake to the introduction of a new baby into the family. All of life seems to be received by him as a joyful gift.

Perhaps my “Oh, WOW”, experiences have been spoiled by longevity. As a (much!) older adult I feel sometimes that I have “seen it all”. Yet, I am still overcome with the beauty of a sunset, the serenity of a quiet rain on tin roof, the laughter of children at play, a beautifully plowed field as tiny green leaves are finding their way up to the sun. There is nothing that creates an “Oh, WOW” moment for me like the birth of a baby. There are still many experiences in life that give us great joy.

My mind skips forward to that wonderful day when I can see my Jesus and encounter my greatest “Oh, WOW” experience. My eyes will open wide; my hands will grasp my face in pure delight. I don’t suppose I will say, “Oh, WOW”, for that is not too spiritual. What will I do? 1“I Can Only Imagine”!
