This teaches us a very important principle: the designers and developers of a product are capable of troubleshooting and resolving any problem that arises.
Centuries before man developed intricately designed automated machines that can be remotely controlled from anywhere in the world, the psalmist David understood that principle and applied it to his life. In Psalm 139, we are reminded that God, the first Engineer, planned every detail of our existence, formed us and knows us intimately. In fact, He wrote a book of our lives before we were even born. Our Creator is aware of every move we make, understands each thought we have and knows what we are going to say before we speak a word. David assures us that God’s hand is upon us; it leads us and holds us steady. We will never be out of God’s sight or out of His reach.
Having expressed the depth and scope of God’s knowledge of man, David cried out to Him to do the troubleshooting that needed to be done in his imperfect heart: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23,24 NKJV)
In our lives also, there is only One who has the expertise to resolve the problem of our brokenness: God. He planned our existence, designed and created each of us. There’s nothing about us that he does not know, and no issue in our lives that He can’t resolve. Let’s remember that principle when we are in a situation we can’t handle. Like David, let’s cry out to Him to do the needed troubleshooting in our lives and restore us to a healthy relationship with Him and others. Only He is able to do that. He is the Expert!
