The first reporter asks the Professor, “Professor, you have stated that there is not a God and that Creation is a fairytale. What proof do you have of such a strong statement?”
The Professor leans back in his chair and smiles, “There is no proof that God does exist therefore, I do not have to prove he doesn’t. It’s that simple, really. Please, someone ask me an intelligent question.”
One of the three unknown reporters on the front row stands up. He is a slightly overweight man with a receding hairline. He approaches the stage and sits on its edge.
He begins to speak, “Professor, you are a scientist. Is that correct?”
The Professor nods his head and rolls his eyes as though irritated with the question.
The reporter continues, “So, as a scientist, you must prove things every day. I have read many of your journals and find your work fascinating. I’ll not ask you to prove that God does exist because there are so many other things that even you cannot prove such as the existence of other minds, numbers, the law of non-contradiction, and that reality is rational. It is really unfair of us to ask you to prove such things since you are not all knowing.”
Highly irritated by this point, the Professor looks to the man on the stage and says, “Sir, if you have a question, please ask. If not, kindly remove yourself from this stage.”
The man returns to his seat and then the next unknown reporter stands. He also approaches the stage and has a seat at its edge.
“Professor, I would like to ask you a simple question if I may.” The reporter is a lanky man with blonde hair and a mustache.
He continues, “Do you see that beautiful young woman standing by the door way?” To this question, the Professor nods again.
“She has thick red hair that glistens under the lights of this auditorium. Do you know how many hairs are on her head?”
The Professor scoffs and stands, “Sir, there is no way to know the answer to that question without plucking each one off her head and I do not think she would be pleased if I did so.” The crowd erupts in laughter.
The tall reporter hands the Professor a piece of folded paper and smiles. The Professor opens it and a number is written on it. “What am I supposed to do with this?” He asks.
“That, dear sir, is the number of hairs on her head at this very moment. Of course, that is subject to change.” By now the Professor is unnerved and throws the paper on the floor.
The third reporter sitting next to the man with the mustache is a woman. She is petite and very pretty. She approaches the stage like her predecessors.
“Professor, we all know you are very intelligent. The reason for this is that you were created that way. You have no way of proving that your mind is part of some evolutionary process that has occurred over time and that you were lucky enough to be smarter than most that evolved during the same time period. Would you say that is correct?”
The Professor laughs and tells her, “Woman, you have no idea who you are speaking to obviously.”
Then the large man and the skinny man stand up and smile. The three of them together say in unison, “Neither do you.”
