and the load becomes too great,
I look to my Father in heaven
and He helps me to change my gait.
When the road seems too long to wander
down trails and paths others have trod,
I lift up my eyes to heaven
and the Father responds with a nod.
Doing good sometimes has no reward;
at least none that I see or hear.
Seeds I’ve sown along the wayside
are lost in the wind, I fear.
His command is to spread the Good News
to any and all who attend.
He knocks on the door of hearts unknown.
The outcome is not mine to share.
Friends, family, and strangers:
My heart breaks to make sure you know.
The Lord is faithful to His promise.
I must tell you before I go.
I gird up my loins with His armor,
and walk in His shoes of peace.
He will harvest the fruit of my labor.
One day I will gaze on His face.
In my mind I can see that glory;
the day of my audience with God.
Will there be any to stand beside me?
any evidence at least I did try?
Face down in His holy presence,
Trembling prostrate before His throne,
Will my hopeful ears hear those few words:
“Well done, faithful servant, well done.”
