Ravensbruck! The very name struck fear through my heart! It was the worst concentration camp in Germany. Few survived this notorious place. Everyday there were executions, most of them were Jews. I was Sarah, no longer. In Ravensbruck, you were a number. I was number 66701.
I was suffering from an illness, and had to be seperated from the rest of the women in the barracks. Although I was so weak I could hardly stand, and coughed until I bled, I was not ill enough to make sick call. Instead, I would be confined in this solitary cell, awaiting my judgement day.
"Where is your God now, Corrie?" I murmmured.
In vain, I struggled to lift myself from the cot. I gave up, falling back onto the cot, and gazed up at the gray sky through small, barred window high above me.
"I believed in a God who was full of love and grace," my voice shook with emotion. The deep well of despair overcame me and spilled over my eyelids. "Father, I was thankful for the fleas and the stale bread, but to be alone is more than I can bear."
I closed my eyes and recited the first rule of our triangle club. "Seek your strength through prayer."
"Father, I trust in you for your protection. You will never leave me nor forsake me."
I opened my eyes as the grey sky turned a warm yellow, and the rays of the sun burst through the bars of the window, bathing my cheeks in their warmth. A calm came over my aching body, as I lay comforted by the the presence of the sun. It was then that my eyes were drawn to the concrete wall below the window. There in the crevice of the wall and my cement floor, was a single flower! Imagine that! A flower in the middle of this dark, grey cell! I crawled over to the wall and knelt beside this small miracle. It was the tiniest blue flower. Tears of joy watered the little flower as I realized that I, number 66701, was not alone, but surrounded by the presence of God.

Also, as a bit of extra encouragement, I want to let you know that you ranked 12th overall - that's out of a total of 145 entries. So that's really quite an achievement.
Just keep an eye out for typos and repetitive words used a little too close (I think "cot" was one example from memory). But they were very minor things and I'll look forward to seeing more from you in the future.
With love, Deb (Challenge Coordinator)
