The day Grandpa planted the plum tree was a happy one. He dug a hole, put in some fertilizer, and added some water. Then he put in the, what looked like to me, a small stick! He watched it grow and grow it did! Each spring he put in some more fertilizer and soon that small stick became a tree.
One day he came inside, his eyes just sparkling with excitement. There are little plums on our tree!” he yelled! I went outside with him and saw what looked like some little pimples in with the leaves.
“Are you sure they will become plums?”I asked.
“Oh yes, I’m sure,” he answered. “I will watch them every day to see them become plums. And watch he did. Every day the little pimples grew into big green plums. The big green plums changed into the purple plums I knew.
One night, after we had gone to bed, the wind began to blow. It blew hard too. Grandpa didn’t sleep much that night. He kept getting up and looking out the window, hoping the wind would stop blowing. But it didn’t. Finally, he went to sleep and woke up to a sunny, very still, morning. The first thing he did was to go out to look at his plums. They were still there! They hadn’t blown off the tree at all. He smiled and thanked God for keeping them on the tree. When he came into the house he said, rather smugly I thought. “We will harvest the plums tomorrow.”
The next day we woke up to a sunshiny morning. It felt like fall had arrived during the night because it was crisp and clear. I was glad this was the day we were going to harvest our plums.
Grandpa walked over to the tree carrying his stepladder and his pail. We both noticed there were no plums on the tree! “What had happened to them?” we both said at once. Just then, a big fat squirrel walked by, and I do say walked, not ran like squirrels usually do. Her jaws stuck out making her face look big and her tummy was huge, so huge he could barely walk. We knew right away who the thief was.
“Well, I guess her home is filled up for the winter and her tummy is filled up too. But we won’t have the good plum jam you make to put on our breakfast toast, will we Grandma?”
“Humph,” grandpa grumbled as he headed for the house with his ladder and pail.

This seems like it would almost have worked better for last week ("Hmmph!") than for "Wow".
