Topic: Black (10/15/09)
Ok, let’s make sure I’m ready. The Baby is asleep, my water bottle is full, and my cute little black workout outfit is on. I’m ready. It’s been far too long and I need to get back into shape. The comments I received, from total strangers, on how hard it is to lose all the baby weight, not knowing my son was adopted, have definitely been a wake-up call.

Now I just have to put the workout DVD in and turn on the TV. This is going to be great. My body is God’s temple and I need to start treating it that way. I’m ready.

“Hello,” the muscular fitness instructor says in a loud enthusiastic manner. “Are you ready to get moving?”

“Yes” I say trying to match his enthusiasm. Man he’s big. I didn’t know your muscles could look like that. I hope that doesn’t happen to me. I just want to lose a few pounds. Oh look, that cute blonde in the second row is wearing the same black outfit I am. I wonder how long it will take to look like her.

Ok, we’re starting. Jogging in place, that’s strange I thought we would stretch out first or at least warm up. This is ok; I can do it, jogging in place.

Breathing, I can’t forget to breath. The lady in the second row is smiling, yeah this is supposed to be fun, and I’ll smile too.

This is great, doing something healthy, getting the blood flowing…

Wait what did he just do? Changed exercises? Mountain climbers, what is that? Kinda like jogging in place but reaching my arms up and down like I’m climbing a mountain.

I got it, no problem. Phew my chest is starting to hurt. I hope he takes a break soon.

But this is good, still smiling.

This is going to be worth it. Not only am I doing something for myself, but I am setting an example for my son. I can fight though some pain and show him how important it is to stay healthy.

My arms are hurting, how long are we going to do this?

Yikes he changed again, now what? I’ve got to stop. I can’t breathe. Figures that blond woman is still smiling. I bet she doesn’t have to get up at midnight and three in the morning to feed a hungry baby. Let’s see her smile through that.

What did he call this? What is he doing? I can’t keep up. Left, no right, oh come on slow down and at least show me what to do.

This is supposed to be good for me. I have got to get my head into this. Focus! This should be hard. It’s my first work out in years. I can do this. It will only get easier.

Stop changing exercises like that! I can’t keep up. Did I put in the wrong DVD? Is there one for extremely out of shape people? When do we get a break?

Lungs hurting, legs burning, arms weak.

I can’t even think in full sentences now. And if that blond doesn’t stop smiling I’m going to cry. Who am I kidding? I’ll cry if she does stop smiling.

What is he doing now? Must stop and breathe. I’ll just take another quick break. Why don’t they seem to be in pain?

Did he just say last exercise? Praise God!

Suicides?! Yeah that’s about right. Who knew exercising could be so hard? I really didn’t think I was in this bad of shape. If I didn’t know any better I would say that, Blondie is laughing at me.

8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Done!

Oh man that was intense.

WARM UP?!? What does he mean nice warm up?

This was funny to me because I just experienced this 2 weeks ago. I joined an aerobics class, already in progress. I was having a hard time keeping up when the instructor said, good warm up everyone! But I am determined to keep it up. Good job on your writing too.

Very clever!

There were a few comma splices, especially in the first paragraph, but nothing major.

I really liked the voice of your narrator--self-deprecation is always amusing.

Oh how I loved this. I had to laugh because that sounds so much like myself. The older one gets the harder it is getting the old body in shape. Thanks for a trip into reality.
