Topic: Twilight Years of Life (07/02/09)
Light Enough to See
Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever. Daniel 12:3 (NKJV)

How very age and time conscious we are. We celebrate a fortieth birthday and start to count gray hairs. We pass a fiftieth birthday and start to count the hairs that fall into the bathroom sink. We celebrate a sixtieth birthday and make jokes about senior moments and then gasp in despair when we realize we’re living senior years.
But how wonderful the Lord is. He loves the hoary head. He considers us wise and useful. He encourages the young men and women in our lives to sound us out, though we must not first offer advice or allow them to think we’re preaching.
We sit and share stories of days long gone with our grandchildren and think how very beautiful and quick they are. We bask in their affection and attention, knowing we had to reach our twilight years in order to see the generations the Lord promised us.
So twilight years are really years that allow us to see and reach the stars. Those years allow us time to stargaze and slow us down just enough to appreciate how beautiful the night time as the moon and bright stars appear from gray and lavender skies.
Yet the joy we share with our children and grandchildren comes with a great responsibility. We must present to our children and our grandchildren the glorious and generous God we love and serve. We find in Him the majesty of a dark and velvet sky, ablaze with bright lights, and the One True Light that they might miss except we confess and profess our faith in a loving Savior.
The twilight years will illuminate the way to even more beauty − even more light.

Lovely descriptions and ideas. It would make easier reading with a double space between the paragraphs. Well done.

Yes, many times the lives of our grandparents show us the way to the Eternal Light and the life in Christ.
