God said with a smile.
You won’t need to bring much.
We will be travlin’ awhile.”
"Together we will journey
From your beginning to our end.
And the destination: 'JOY',
Could be just around the bend."
Feeling a sense of adventure,
I accepted His generous plan.
He loaded all my baggage
Into His strong, scarred hands.
So, off we go to "JOY."
God allowed me to steer and drive
We called our ride, "Faith."
I have never felt so alive!
"Are we there yet?" I asked
As the road took a dip
The Navigator responded,
"There will be trials on this trip."
"Let's stop at this resting place
And refill the cooler.
It is patience we will need.
It will be tested here sooner."
It was then that I noticed
The fuel gage take a leap.
Full? (Not quite yet),
Read "perfect and complete."
On the road towards "JOY"
Suddenly many ways converged.
I slowed down to ponder
Which way to make the merge.
Then I remembered I could ask
The navigator at my side;
For wisdom,which way to go.
When I confessed all my pride.
Joy seemed to be getting close
But I saw this side trip to "DOUBT."
“Ride a wave in the wind,
Tossed in the sea all about?”
But the Lord would not agree.
…Said I could go by myself if I choose.
Seasickness and instability
Were not His choices for a cruise.
Instead we took a new turn
called "the Humble Highway."
"Are we there yet?" I said.
I'm feeling so blessed today!"
We passed by an old junkyard
Of deserted and faded rides.
Their rusted shells now empty,
The chrome tarnished, crushed sides.
He spoke to me in sadness
For He told me of their fate.
"They took the road 'Temptation,'
And for these, it was too late."
"But you are a wise travel
For with me you have often spoke.
Temptation came upon you
But you gave me that heavy yoke."
It was then I did realize
That “JOY” is an attitude.
I feel I'm in Her suburbs;
Taking in all I’ve viewed.
Sometimes, we travel in darkness
And I am afraid and sometimes ashamed.
But I see the freeway sign from my window.
It reads TRUTH, …God's taken my fear and blame.
I will not look back in the rear view
But remember by snapshots and views.
I'll scrapbook my travel memories,
And share all this "Good News."
"Are we there yet?" I said,
God just smiled back at me.
"As long as you're with me, kid,
'JOY" is where you will always be.
James 1
