Elizabeth wanted her world to change. But the desperate and urgent pleas of long ago had changed to faint whispers of acceptance. Her world placed little value on women. And what value that did come from bearing and raising children had been denied. Were it not for the unending love of her husband and her Father, her heart would be as barren as her womb.
But the eyes that had only seen the children of others was about to behold her own. The ears that had heard the mocking of others would soon hear the cries of her own new born babe. The hands that were growing older and weaker were made to hold the hands of a precious new life. And a womb that had for ever so long felt only emptiness was now feeling leaps of joy.
Tidings of great joy were indeed coming to the world. And all because Mary’s world was about to change as drastically as her cousin Elizabeth’s. But there weren’t too many people in Mary’s world that could understand. Who would listen when she repeated the words of the angels? Who would look at her with nothing but condemnation when they saw the growing belly of an unwed teenage girl? Such understanding, wisdom, and compassion were hard to find. But Mary sought and found these treasures in her cousin Elizabeth.
And then there were two new and extraordinary cousins. Outcasts and dangerous in the eyes of the world. But the world was about to change. It would never be the same again.
