To try and find the tradition of motherhood is like trying to locate a safe haven in a dark, gray cloud. Where has it gone? Now all we see is a new image. An image made by something unknown - it hard to understand or explain.
Life is like a play. A large stage made of dark oak, dim lights shining upon its imperfections and glories. A dark, red curtain separates this stage of life like a scarlet divider of right and wrong. Or is it? That’s what we hear. The front of the stage is life and until you have come out from behind the veil and done your deeds, shown your worth, you amount to nothing. You are like the millions of other women from the past. Staying behind………. making sure everything is fine. But that is a waist, come out to the front!
Most did, some didn’t. The women of long ago are no longer here to say no. They are but a tiny whisper that can no longer be heard over that shouts of acclamation. But it is a play, acting is it not? They pretend to be satisfied until everything becomes so chaotic no one can hear. And….slowly they fall off the edge and that stage is silent - silent as a tomb. The worst is that nothing was accomplished, for these ambitious women did not fulfill their roll.
Or perhaps, there is a small glimmer of hope. For all did not go. A few stayed behind the scarlet curtain in union and harmony. All who heard and heeded their words where saved.
“Oh mothers, do not fall away from us. We need you to lead us, guide us or we will fall.”
Listen to your mother’s voice.
Follow her example.
