“Fanny, I have an idea for the newsletter.” Robbie gasped, as he tumbled into the small room.
“And what might that be?” Fanny smiled.
“Let’s put a comic inside, one about Jesus.”
“I think that is an awesome idea. How about you create the first one?”
Robbie’s mouth dropped, “You mean it?”
“Yes, I think you would do great.”
It was for this reason that she did what she did every week. Watching a child get excited about using their talents and seeing those kids who she knew had a rough life, smile at what they had accomplished, whether it be by decorating the bulletin board or talking to another child about a book they had read that week.
Marlynn tip toed inside and placed her bag on the floor, “Hi, Fanny.”
“Hi Marlynn, how was your week?”
Shrugging her shoulders she sat down at the desk, opened the books and started to card them. Her braided hair fell over her eyes and Fanny pushed them to the side. Marlynn looked up; her cheeks turning a bright red. How she wished she could help her more than just the small chats they had each Sunday morning, but these kids knew to keep what happened at home a secret. All Fanny could do is bring a smile to their faces and let them know that they could make a difference to their world.
“Fanny, how does a person know if God loves them?”
“He sent his son to die for us.”
“But that was just for his people. How do we know if we are his people? It says in the Bible that not everyone is.”
Fanny’s heart fell just a little. How was she to answer? She had never been asked such a tough question before. “Do you feel him with you?”
“Not really.”
Bending down, Fanny placed her hand on Marlynn’s shoulder. “What about when you are sad? Do you ever feel him comforting you?”
Shaking her head, a tear dropped from Marlynn’s eye. “But I think the angel Melek Ta’us likes me and I like him too.”
“Why?” Fanny didn’t know who Melek Ta’us was.
“Because when I see a picture of a peacock, my sadness goes away and I feel happy. I read a cool story about him.”
“I don’t understand but maybe you can tell me about him.”
Fanny was very devoted to Jesus, yet if someone felt a connection to an angel she would definitely listen to what they had to say. She could never agree with people who only cared for others who believed in the same god and didn’t understand those who would only help others in order to convert them. Just thinking of it made her cheeks burn and it gave her the desire to love these children even more than she already did.
Two more children came in and began their search for books and Shawna, a girl who had been a helper since the library first opened, started working on the display. Fanny would have to wait to hear about Melek Ta’us another time. As Robbie searched through magazines and Shawna through the construction paper, Fanny stood to the side and smiled as the children worked their magic on what had become a place not only for books, but for friendship. No Sunday was the same, but every Sunday was a gift and one that Fanny hoped would continue to change the lives of those who entered.

You lost me a bit at the end; it seems like you're saying that there are legitimate paths to God other than Jesus, and I'm also not sure what you're saying about the angel. Just made me a bit uneasy; maybe some clarification is in order.
Your writing is very descriptive and interesting. I share your passion for books!
