They had spent two months preparing for this special Christmas luncheon. Had sent out special invitations. They made gift bags for twenty women. They had elegant tables decorated for the occasion. They had a program all planned and a kitchen full of food.. But no one came. “What did we do wrong?”, Colleen wondered aloud. “Did we miss something in our preparations? Did we choose the wrong date?”
“I don’t know what we could have missed, I was hoping this would be a special gift to all the women”, Barbara said as she sank into a nearby chair. “I guess what really bothers me is all this food we have that is going to go to waste without someone to eat it”.
Naomi sat quietly in the corner then she said, “How bout if I knock on the doors of some of the residence and invite them all for lunch? I think most of them are home and it is lunch time.”
“And I’ll call the Pastor and see if his family would like to come to lunch”,Barbara added.
One by one the residence made their way to the dining room, excited that they were going to a fancy party on and ordinary Saturday. Some of them wondered why they should be given such an unexpected gift.
The Pastor was glad to bring his family, too. But he also had a house full of kids because it was his daughter’s 13th birthday and he was trying to give her a party. Party planning was new to him and he had not yet gotten any food for the party. He said he thought he planned to run up to a fast food place and pick something up. “Is it okay if I bring several kids? Will you have enough for all of them?” He brought two car loads of hungry kids with him.
It was a wonderful time. The guests ate their fill and they sang Christmas carols and Barbara ask everyone to tell a memory of a Christmas past. Everyone shared, the young and the old together. They where all happy to share a part of themselves with everyone.

I was left with some questions, though--why didn't anyone come? Why didn't the pastor's wife plan the birthday party? FYI--I think you meant "residents" instead of "residence" a few times.
Love the gracious spirit of these women...very sweet.
