It was raining, but not too hard, so he didn’t see a problem with driving a little fast. The speed limit was 45 on these country roads, but he was going about 60. As he saw a couple of deep puddles, he decided to let off the gas. He wasn’t going to hit the brakes, because he thought that would be worse than just driving 60 miles an hour through them.
He was quickly approaching an intersection, which right now was red for Pat. The quicker he got to it, the more he hoped and wished that it would turn green. He began to apply the brake as the red finally turned to green. When it did, Pat had a gut feeling hit him hard. Something in his gut told him to go ahead and come to a complete stop. It was green, so he really wasn’t sure why.
He tried to fight the feeling off, but couldn’t. So he applied the brake, and stopped right before the thick white line on the street. He sat for a only a second, trying to look around a couple of trees that were in his path of vision.
This is stupid. I’m going…
As Pat thought that, he let off the brake and the truck began to roll forward. At that very same time, an old green junker of a car sped by, totally ignoring the red light. The car was going very fast, and swerving from one side to the other. Pat watched as the car passed, and could not believe what had just happened.
If I would have went, Pat thought, he would have nailed me for sure.
He sat in that same spot, for a couple of more seconds, and then decided to head on over to Mike’s. By now, it said 12:02 on his truck dash. It was the New Year, and Pat thought that he just got one awesome New Year’s present…the gift of life. His mother and father had both been trying to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and that did it! As Pat pressed on down the country road, toward Mike’s house, he realized that that gut feeling wasn’t just a gut feeling, or that bean burrito that he had for lunch. That was God, telling him to stop. That was God saving Patrick’s life.
“Lord, thank you so much for saving me back there,” Patrick said out loud, “Thank you for everything that you have done for me. I know I haven’t been a very good person, and I am sorry. Please forgive me of my sins…and please…Lord…take over my life.”
After Patrick said that, he felt so relieved. He knew that this was going to be such a change for him. And definitely a good one! When he got to Mike’s house, he didn’t drink one beer. He sat, talked with his friends, and explained to them what had just happened to him. He knew that this wasn’t only going to be a Happy New Year, but the beginning of a life-long journey, as Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
