As a Parish Nurse, I need all the help I can get, so I tap into many resources. The most important source is never busy… I envision it as a direct telephone line to heaven; and I direct dial often. This is my free-verse conversation:
Heavenly Father,
This is (my name) calling.
You know the many hats I wear as a Parish Nurse, and
You know that it is my heart’s desire
To be the best that I can be.
I know that this is a heavy responsibility
That I cannot bear alone; so
I am, again today, asking
Your guidance and your blessing
Upon my church, whose mission is clear;
Upon the Compassionate Ministries, who are the heart and hands of that mission;
Upon the other ministries, who meet the needs that nursing cannot;
Upon the Pastor, who guides and directs;
Upon the people, who are the reason I am a Parish Nurse; and
Upon all of those who support and pray for me.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for instilling in me the desire to serve others.
Thank you for nurturing me; I often feel fragile and unworthy.
Thank you for never giving up on me.
Thank you for giving me the skills, the energy, the knowledge,
the wisdom, and the vision to carry out your mission.
Thank you for the diversity- all those hats I must wear; and
for changes, though frustrating, they challenge me.
Thank you for loving me enough that I, in turn, can love those in my care.
Thank you.
Now I can share Your love and comfort for another hour... another day.
Amen.
