Oh dear God why do I still feel as if it just happened? Sarah in her faded blue jeans still looked as if she were twenty. It was three years now and Sarah's soft brown hair had some gray shining through. Her skin was as brown as if she had been to the beach. Tommy was a memory that would be
with her everyday.
Sarah had the table set with a cake, candles on it .She still had cake on the day it happened. As she walked toward the lake feeling more like it was that day.
Walking along the wild flowers seems to have been planted along the path and around the lake. It was December and Christmas was only two days away. It was the only holiday Sarah didn't look forward to. She was angry with herself but even angrier with God who took her son away. How could he do this? Tommy was her only child. No one could take his place. The family would come in tomorrow all cherry and full of thanks which made her angry. It was easy to be happy when you had all your family with you.
Granny Bessie was coming this year strange she never made the trip before. Maybe she decided it was time to come see her favorite grand daughter. She was the one who told me bible stories as a child. It was some
Thing I loved about her. Not this time I don't want to hear about God he let me down. Walking back she realized she had gone all around and never actually saw any thing. It was ok just the walk made her feel closer to Tommy. It was getting late looking at her watch it was after nine AM. Picking up her pace she began to jog the way she used to with Tommy.
Strange she hadn't done this since he was drowned in the lake. It felt good to just get rid of the old hurts. Suddenly she felt compelled to pray. She knelt down and for the first time in three years she talked to God. Her anger had taken possession. God gave her piece inside.
Getting to her feet she felt so good inside she began to sing as she ran. It
Was Christmas Jesus birthday? The cake would be for his birthday this year.
As she ran up the drive and entering the house she ran to the storage room. With energy she had forgotten she pulled all the Christmas decorations out. The tree had been standing outside in the shed. She decorated the house and the tree in a few short hours.
By late afternoon she had everything festive. Dan would be thrilled when he returned from work. He was not looking forward to Christmas. She could understand this. As the day progressed Sarah went to the store purchasing
Everything needed for a wonderful meal. By seven O'clock that evening the
House smelled like a mixture of sugar and spice.
Dan driving slowly toward home feeling a bit like he wished to run away just for the holidays. He was surprised to see it all lit up. The tree was the most beautiful he had seen since Tommy had drowned. Grandma Bessie
Sitting on the seat beside him glanced over toward Dan. Our girl has finally
Come to God for help in dealing with her loss.
As Bessie and Dan entered the house they saw the cake on the table. Dan’s heart sank. Sarah came bursting into the room she gave Bessie a big
Hug. As she approached Dan she said it would be Jesus birthday. Granny I know I can count on you to pray and tell the Christmas story. This will be our best Christmas ever. As they had something to eat and prayed together Sarah accepted God knew what was best.
