Topic: Parent (11/16/06)
For most, parenthood starts off with the one emotion that will be threaded throughout their following journey - a loving act between two people who wish to cement their devotion for one another. And it’s the little moments afterwards that showcase that same love and devotion, though not necessarily to one another. Looking at a pregnancy test and having your heart stop beating when you see the small plus sign. Feeling waves of adoration when you see your child for the first time on ultrasound. Jumping with elation the second you feel a small kick from deep within your womb. Endless anxiety as you await your newborn presences into the world as you go through the measures of labor.
And it’s the first time you lay eyes on the small being that God has in trusted you with, that parenthood changes your life completely around. It dawns on you that that small child in your arms, the one that resembles both you and your spouse, will play a part in Gods history. No matter how big or small of a role, you are responsible for how they will show Gods love to all they meet.
For many, being a parent fills a gap in their hearts that they hadn’t even realized were there. Making them feel whole and incomplete at the same time - whole, because they’ve created a family, and incomplete, because they realize that their life is no longer their own…every move they make is reflected in their infant’s soul..
Parenthood truly is a gift…but the greatest gift isn’t the way your life has changed, but why it’s changed - the small life that you hold in your hands.
I wish you the best of luck…because no matter how scared you may be at the responsibility you have, you also have a wonderful blessing.
